About

Jeff Fuchs (American, 1967) is a U.S. artist inspired by the natural and human made landscapes encountered near his home in Portland, Oregon and during his journeys around the western United States. His work captures the feeling he experiences when viewing the vast landscapes of the Pacific Northwest or zooming in on the many layers of flaking paint on the hood of an old car or a faded fence. Jeff translates those feelings to canvas and paper using bold colors, energetic marks, and layers of intertwined paint.

Jeff is self taught as as an artist and first entered the art world with woodturning, sculptures, and furniture. At some point before the pandemic, Jeff transitioned from not only making amazing pieces of wooden art but also painting bold exciting colorful abstract paintings. As a wood artist he is known for drawing out the natural beauty in the wood, creating excellent forms to see and touch, and celebrating the natural defects in the wood wabi sabi style. His paintings have a similar feel that invites the viewer to feel the world as Jeff felt it when he was painting.

Jeff spent more than 30 years as a civil engineer, using his creative mind and abundant energy to design and construct civil works projects throughout the western United States.  Jeff is currently focusing his engineering energy on helping communities develop abundant clean reliable drinking water supplies. It is incredibly rewarding work.

Jeff primarily works in acrylic and also continues to make wooden objects and furniture.
